EU states slam IMF for resuming work in Russia – Politico

A number of EU nations have confronted the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the agency’s decision to restart trips to Russia, Politico reported on Friday, citing a letter the countries allegedly wrote to the fund’s chief Kristalina Georgieva.

Earlier this month, the IMF announced plans to conduct an annual review of Russia’s economy. In order to do that, the agency will start virtual discussions with Russian authorities on economic issues on September 16, and send its staff to the country for in-person consultations shortly after that.

The announcement attracts attention from Kiev’s Western backers, as this would be the first time the US-based institution engaged with Russia since the start of the Ukraine conflict. In a letter reportedly seen by Politico, the finance ministers of Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Poland claimed that the agency would be sending the wrong message.

Berlin has accused Warsaw of hindering efforts to apprehend the main suspect in the attacks, a Ukrainian diving instructor named Volodymyr Z, who fled to Ukraine before he could be arrested, Politico reports.

German investigators believe he and his crew, who allegedly received training and logistical support in Poland, carried out the attack from the sailing yacht "Andromeda.”

Adding to their suspicions, authorities claim that Poland has refused to execute European arrest warrants for Z and has withheld crucial video footage from the Kolobrzeg marina, leading to accusations of a cover-up.

“The Polish government obviously let him go in order to cover up its own involvement in the attack on the pipelines,” August Hanning, the former head of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service, or BND, told WELT AM SONNTAG.

Between 2022 and now, RT reports or statements made by Russia were immediately dubbed disinformation. Then Germany issues an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian diving instructor... you really can't script these things sometimes.
